Quinoa protein provides all the essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. It has the highest percentage of fiber out of any food, making it an excellent choice for those who are trying to lose weight or have digestive problems.

Quinoa Protein Ecdysterones from Plant Juice?

A study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry found that quinoa has more protein conversion and is more agonistic for muscle than some steroids. The study found that quinoa has about 16% protein, which is higher than most other grains and beans. Quinoa contains the highest level of ecdysterone an interesting plant and insect type hormone which has caught the eye of athletes and bodybuilders. These ecdysterones can be found in the leaves, flowers and seeds of plants.

The ecdysterone found in plants is called 20-hydroxyecdysone, while the one found in insects is called ecdysone. Ecdysterones have been shown to have some potential as a dietary supplement for bodybuilding because they can reduce muscle fatigue and improve muscle hypertrophy.

Ecdysterones are found in quinoa at the highest concentration and lesser amounts in spinach and creatine. Ecdysterones are also known as plant sterols, or phytosterols. They have been shown to increase protein synthesis, reduce the amount of cortisol (a stress hormone) and improve muscle recovery after exercise.

Conundrum for Olympic Committee

Ecdysterones are converted into molted hormones responsible for regulating the growth and development of insects and are also found in amphibians and fish. They are also in plants and mammals but to a lesser extent. Although these hormones are present in mammals, they are not as significant as other animals because of the size difference. Insects have been proven to have concentrations that range from 500 to 1000 times that of mammals.

Turkesterones are a type of faux steroid that is created from ecdysterone. Turkesterone is synthesized from ecdysterone by adding a methyl group to the molecule. This process is called methylation. It has been shown to have a significant effect on inflammation, which can be beneficial for those who are trying to build muscle mass.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is now putting quinoa on the doping watch list! Officials are warning athletes against eating too much of the plant-based food! There have been no new drugs on the watch list for nearly a decade and the only one appearing the last several years has been quinoa! Yes, the grain often on the health food menus and available at virtually all grocery stores. Quinoa for bodybuilding is real but it’s natural and therein lies the problem for the IOC.

Quinoa for Bodybuilding and All Athletes

The IOC is out of luck trying to enforce banning a natural food or requesting athletes not to eat too much! What is the deal? Quinoa for bodybuilding happens to have one of the highest contents of ecdysterones. Ecdysterones also inhibit mysostatin as the main factor for its super powers. Myostatin is in all of us and designed to regulate muscle growth and inhibit too much. Its like a muscle governor that does not allow us to turn into incredible hulks. Inhibiting myostatin can thus override its ability to stop too much muscle growth.

So, the deal is that around a cup has something like 12mg of ecdysterones in it. This tested amount actually had higher anabolic results than a few steroids in studies! Spinach has about a quarter the amount of Quinoa and now we know Popeyes secret! Creatine was up there with spinach and likely why it’s the top bodybuilding supplement worldwide.

I have tried it for bodybuilding recently and can feel the boost from it, albeit not earth shaking. It definitely gooses up the workouts and turns out to be the only grain that has complete protein! If you doctor it up with butter and seasoning, it’s not bad. It has a kind of nutty taste and fairly low calorie and medium carbs. Try it out, it can’t hurt you and will only help boost your workouts and add some muscle!
